Who or what is Olde Magics? |
Olde Magics is a handle I picked up over many years because I liked old stuff and
the old ways of doing things. That is part of the reason the only "modern" machinery you find in my shop is a belt sander and a bandsaw. No copiers, no c.n.c., just a lot of hand tools, some used by my grandfather which is as far back as I know their history. If you wonder why there are so few gunsmiths or stocksmiths around anymore, it is pretty simple. |
You will never make a "living" from either one, unless you manage to get lucky and
make a HUGE name in the business. The amount of time it takes to do this work, especially by hand, you could never really bill someone for. So the few of us doing this type of work are doing it because of our love of guns and artwork. |

When you place an order, expect a number of questions. Do the new grips need to be thicker or thinner than the original to fit your hand better? What type of wood? Add or remove a thumb rest? Checkering? What style? How fine or coarse? Does this gun get frequent or heavy use? |
Also, unless you buy a set fo ready made grips they will not be an overnight event. A single set of simple 1911 grips usually takes four to seven hours to cut, shape, sand, check and finish, and that does not include the time it takes for each coat of finish to dry. Inlay and other special treatments add to the time. I try to get work done as quickly as I can, and will keep you informed as to progress. |
